TOL Young Achievers 11-15 age group recently did a thought-provoking youth-led debate on the topic: “The Impact of Social Media on Young People”

This was a powerful moment where young voices took centre stage. We believe in creating spaces where young people can be heard, understood, and empowered to think critically

With growing conversations around how social media affects mental health, self-image, and social connection, we felt it was important to let our young people explore and express their own views. And they did so brilliantly.

Both debate teams approached the topic with courage and clarity, offering thoughtful points, real-life examples, and strong teamwork. From the pressure of fitting in to the dangers of cyberbullying, and the benefits of online learning to the power of positive messaging, they tackled the subject with maturity and insight.

It was inspiring to see them not only speak their truth but also listen respectfully to others -learning that dialogue is just as important as delivery.

Why These Conversations Matter
Today’s young people are growing up in a digital world filled with both opportunity and challenge. This debate gave them the chance to reflect on how social media affects their everyday lives - what helps, what hurts, and what needs to change.

One young participant said, "Social media can feel like a place where you have to be perfect all the time. Talking about it here helped me feel like I’m not the only one who thinks that."

These moments of honesty and connection are exactly why we hold sessions like this. When young people feel safe to share, they grow in confidence, empathy, and resilience.

Thank You to Our Volunteers
We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers who helped make this session happen. From guiding the conversation to offering quiet encouragement behind the scenes, your time and dedication helped shape an unforgettable experience for our young people.

You reminded them that their opinions matter - and that they have a community ready to support them.

Looking Ahead
This debate was just the beginning. At Touch of Love, we are committed to continuing these important conversations and creating more platforms where young minds can explore real-world issues, learn from one another, and grow stronger together.

Because when we give young people the chance to lead, listen, and learn, the entire community benefits.
